All children and families in the Auburn-Opelika community will soon have a new place to play. An inclusive playground at Auburn’s Town Creek Park is officially underway!
What to Expect
The new inclusive playground at Auburn’s Town Creek Park will be ADA-compliant. The design, equipment, parking and overall accessibility will be suited for a wide-range of children. However, the kids weren’t the only consideration.
In addition to a plethora of playground equipment, there will be exercise equipment geared toward older children and adults. Soon everyone can burn some energy at the park. According to the park renderings on the City’s website, there are multiple ways to easily access the play areas, shaded play areas, a nature area, play structures, slides, swings adapted for wheelchairs, a walking trail and more.

In a recent article by the Opelika Observer, Parks and Rec President Becky Richardson further explained the design and types of equipment. The inclusive playground at Auburn’s Town Creek is laid out in pods. Certain pods will have play equipment suited for children with differing needs.
The equipment will be supplied and installed by Miracle Recreation Equip. Co. The equipment provides sensory benefits to children of differing ages and abilities. It allows them to play side-by-side and all feel welcome.
Also included in the design are observation areas, picnic areas and several connectors to Town Creek’s existing walking trails.
Location
The playground will be located at Wrights Mill Road and Camellia Drive across from Wrights Mill Road Elementary School. It is a part of Town Creek Park, which is located at 1150 S. Gay St. The park currently has several walking trails, a dog park, a pavilion, an exercise equipment loop, pond and more.
Town Creek is open from sunup to sundown.
