After more than a year of construction, Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center prepares to reopen its doors to the public in the coming weeks.
About the renovations to JDCAC
As the last stages of the renovations come to an end and the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center prepares to reopen later this month or in March, it’s a good time to review what the upgrades included. For starters, the community arts center expanded by about 8,000 square feet.
Interior renovations will accommodate program growth with much-needed studio space, more classrooms and gallery space. The dressing room, storage area and office space were also reconfigured during the construction process.
In addition to those upgrades, the main entrance, kitchen, restrooms and doorways were all improved as well. What’s more, parking will be more convenient with extra spaces available along East Drake Avenue, along with a new sidewalk.

According to reports, one group in particular is looking forward to the art center’s reopening. Home to the Auburn Area Community Theatre, the organization is excited to return to a space designed for theater.
Besides the community theater, Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center is a hub for cultural programming, art exhibitions, dance classes and performances, art studios and more. The center also helps sponsor several annual community-wide events, such as Auburn CityFest, SummerNight Downtown Art Walk and Auburn-Opelika Empty Bowls, just to name a few.
